Air New Zealand Hanger Three
Hangar Three is a $20 million upgrade of Air New Zealand's hangar facilities at its Auckland engineering base. The new fleet of Boeing 777-300's are among the aircraft's maintained here. The two storey hangar also provides work shop facilities for internal fit out of the aircraft.
Requirement and specification
A 60 and 120 minute fire resistant rating was required on a vast area of the steel. Phoenix 700-60 was used to achieve the 60 minute FRR and Phoenix 270-120 was used to achieve the 120 minute FRR. The steel was primed with Dulux Luxaprime U.M.P ZP and top coated with Dulux Weathermax HBR, a very hard wearing exterior finish coat.
The intumescent was applied by a Zone NZ Approved Applicator. An independent third party checked and verified the correct dry film builds were achieved. Zone NZ staff were involved from day one and worked very closely with the approved applicator. As a result, an aesthetically pleasing finish was achieved as well as the required fire rating.
