FireZone Vanguard

Natural, locally applied fire retardant system for achieving a Group 1-S on interior and exterior timber substrates
Firezone

Specified for: Exterior and interior linings
Substrate Requirements: Various
Fire Rating: Group 1-S
Product Type: Fire Retardant

Factory applied fire retardant to achieve a Group 1-S fire rating for interior and external timber substrates.

New Zealand’s only locally processed, natural fire retardant system suitable for internal and external use, with the largest number of compliant timber species.

The versatility of this offsite treatment system allows for a natural timber finish, stained or clear coat finish to be achieved on either internal or external timber substrates.

Achieving a Group 1-S fire rating for internal and external timber substrates.

For external or high moisture internal environments, specify when a natural, stained timber finish is desired.

Performance

Internal, semi external or fully external – Achieves a Group 1-S according to NZBC Clause 3.4(a) achieving classification through ISO5660-1 and EN 13501-1:2018.

Durability

FireZone Vanguard does not improve or take away from the natural durability of the timber substrate. The fire performance of the treated timber will last for the life time of the timber substrate – according to EN16755:2017: no maintenance of the system is required. Please refer to timber suppliers for timber substrate maintenance requirements.

Specification

Specify directly through Masterspec Section 6743FB or by getting in touch with one of our specialists for project specific specification writing assistance and technical support. Specification can be linked directly to your preferred timber supplier’s Masterspec Section.

The Technology

FireZone Vanguard uses a natural fire retardant to penetrate the timber substrate and create a denser char layer that reduces the flammability of the timber by blocking oxygen consumption on its surface. Additionally, the fire retardant particles release moisture from within the timber cells to counter the heat of the fire. This is a cutting-edge timber fire rating system that achieves the desired fire rating using an all-natural process, suitable for all timbers including plywood and timber feedstock prior to profiling or being cut on site as required.

Treatment

The FireZone Vanguard fire retardant treatment is carried out offsite at a local facility in Auckland, New Zealand. This offers flexibility and reduces the risk of damage, high costs, and long lead times associated with offshore treatment systems. The high-tech treatment system allows for assurance that the required fire retardant consumption is met along with compliance of every batch. The treated timber is then kiln dried to ensure an appropriate moisture level is reached before dispatch.

Sustainability

FireZone Vanguard is the world’s first all-natural fire retardant that is water-based and has low/no VOC emissions. It has several third-party accreditations, including A+/M1 emission classes, Indoor Air Comfort® certification, BREEAM classification, LEED v4 compliance, biodegradability, Cradle to Cradle Gold certification, pH neutrality, non-toxicity, and non-corrosiveness (with an option available for non-corrosive fixings).

Substrate Requirements

For internal, semi external or full external timber substrates which require a Group 1-S or below, please refer to the list below.

If your desired substrate is not listed below please get in touch with one of our specialists to confirm compliance. discuss your project requirements and for advice on locally supplied timbers to ensure your timber selection meets compliance requirements.
